The first picture if from the Salton Sea State Recreation Area. It is run by the California Department of Parks and Recreation and is located on the northeastern side of the Salton Sea. It offers hunting, fishing, swimming and camping to visitors. The second picture is from the North Shore Beach and Yacht Club on the north shore of the Salton Sea. It opened in 1962 as part of a $2 million development which at the time became California largest marina. It was a mecca for the entertainment industry including the Beach Boys and Jerry Lewis who had boats docked there. However ever increasing salinity and runoff from the area culminated in a major flood in 1981 which destroyed the club’s jetty making docking boats impossible and it was closed in 1984. In July, 2009 Riverside County Supervisors approved the reception of a grant of $3.35 million as part of an overall of $30 million to redevelop and restore the property. The third picture is a typical house in Salton City that was built during the last housing boom here in Southern California. Hundreds of housing similar to the one shown were built hereĀ  from 2000 to 2010 as the population quadrupled to almost 4000 residents. The area was first developed in the 1950s and as mentioned above took a dramatic price rise as the entire housing market escalated. Salton City is located right off State Route 86 which is major north-south route going through Imperial County down into Mexico. There is also a casino run by the Torres-Martinez Indians here. The fourth picture locates the property at 2229 Shore Breeze Avenue. As you can see there is a house 3 doors down and within a 1/4 mile radius there are at least 15 homes. All utilities if not right at the property line are no further than the house a few doors down. At the top of the housing boom lots like this were going for at least $25,000. The lady who owned the parcel before me paid $41,500 in May, 2006! Now is the greatest time to pick up lots very cheap and just wait for the next boom. It may be 5 or more years down the road but we all know Rome wasn’t built in a day. The fifth picture gives a more general overview of the area.
